Perk Is Pissed

Kendrick PerkinsKendrick Perkins doesn’t like to lose.  And he doesn’t like it if other people seem to be ok with it.  And unlike Doc Rivers, Perkins doesn’t care about calling out the rest of his team when there’s a microphone in his face…. cuz what are they gonna do… fight him?

From today’s Herald:

“We were the second-worst team in the league, so really besides Paul (Pierce), in my opinion every position is open.
“Even Al’s,” said Perkins of his closest friend on the team. “Every position is open to me except Paul. Despite what (Rajon) Rondo did this year and what Al did this year and what Gerald (Green) did, we still didn’t win games. And that’s what we’re here for. Despite all the numbers, we still didn’t win no games. So if you had 30 points and we lose and you had 12 defensive breakdowns, what good is it? We never really had a chance to have a healthy team and just play. We could never get on a roll. But guys have to play better.”

You tell ‘em Perk.  Also included in that link:  The fact that if Perkins wakes up in the middle of the night and he can’t sleep…. he’ll drive to Healthpoint and get a workout in.  So there Perk is… at 3am… lifting or hitting the stairmaster.  How do you spell dedication?  P-E-R-K-I-N-S.   Also in the Herald:  Handicapping the potential #5 picks.  Scott Souza has an item today about Jeff Green’s impressive workout for the C’s. Moving on to the biggest story around the NBA…. Douchebag Bryant.  I’ll let Chuck handle this one:

Don’t Trade Kobe, Promote Him.

I figured out the solution to Lakers owner Jerry Buss’ problems with his egomaniacal superstar Kobe Bryant. Nearly a month after his first trade demand, Bryant has once again decided he wants out of L.A. I’m guessing Kobe threw a hissy fit upon learning trade talks for Jermaine O’Neal stalled. (Rumor has it the Lakers don’t want to give up both Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom for O’Neal.) Here’s the unprecendented move Buss should make. Promote Kobe to player/general manager. We’ve had coach/GMs and player/coaches, so why not a player-GM? This way the almighty Kobe can improve the team as he sees fit. The “promotion” itself should be enough to satisfy Kobe’s ego-hunger for the off-season, at the very least. What are the chances Kobe’s first move is to trade himself?

Chuck McKenney ladies and gentlemen.  That would be great.  Kobe would have to figure out all the numbers for himself.  Eventually, he’d get fed up and just rape someone, no?

For those of you who really want to plan ahead and see what free agents might be available NEXT year…. check out the list at Hoopsworld

And one last interesting link:  A game was played in Seattle where the rim was raised to 11 feet.  Very interesting concept here… with interesting results.  As one who has advocated changing the dimensions of the court… I’m interested in this (although I have been against raising the rim).

One Response

  1. I love this kid. I have been on the Perk bandwagon since Day 1. I have said over and over that Perk will break out this season and become one of the top centers. Perk works too hard not to. Perk is a leader on this team and the rest of the team respects him. Seeing him work that hard will encourage each of them to work harder too. You think Al isn’t working his tail off to keep up with Perk? Have I said lately that I love this kid?

Oh yeah… don’t sleep on Powe either.
