Is Damon The Answer?
Soon to be 34-year-old Damon Stoudamire wants out of Memphis. The veteran point guard wants to play for a winner, and since Boston qualifies as a winner, I’m making the connection.
“Hopefully I can get out of Memphis - that rebuilding process is hard,” he said Sunday, after he scored 21 points in the Lute Olson Classic. “I’ve got to be professional but it’s one of those situations where you never think you’ll be in. You want to get put in a situation where you want to win. Individually things don’t matter.”
Now the problem lies in Stoudamire’s contract. He’s got two years left at $4 million per season. Too steep for Boston’s standards, unless of course we package Scalabrine with a future draft pick?
The C’s have traded enough of their draft picks, they’re going to need them with the way the payroll is structured now, they’ll need good players cheap. I say they should wait until midseason when vets start getting buy outs like Webber last year, maybe Cassel asks for a buyout in LA.
yea if anything they should just wait or just sign a hudson to backup……… they already got the heavy lifting done. they got their superstar KG and two others around him in ray allen and paul pierce. they are a powerhouse. they could definitley win at least 2 of the next 5 championships. its a perfect fit. not much to worry about for boston fans honestly. i dont see why they are worried at all, the championship puzzle’s major pieces are already in place. the roleplayers will come into fruition with hardwork and time……. all they need is a backup pg and they may not even need that if house does a good job like he did in phx. they shouldnt drop ANY DRAFT PICKS no matter what cuz theyre just about there anyways. be patient and watch your team dominate boston. ya lucky bastards.
Damon Stoudamire? the answer? if the question is “who will disrupt the team, be a bad influence on the young core (rondo especially), destroy chemistry, shoot brick after brick and want to take big shots” then yeah, you found your answer. Do my Raptors a huge favour and sign him, TJ and Jose are waiting.

Stoudamire would be an alright signing if Memphis buys out his contract and we sign him to a veteran minimum. Otherwise…trading more draft picks for an aging guard doesn’t sound so good to me.
Does Damon Stoudamire think he can just say I want to be on a winning team and POOF it will happen? Hey, I want a million dollars……nothing.
Damon Stoudamire is not what the Celtics need. They need role players and a deeper bench.
I know they are going for a championship now, but they can’t really afford to give up any more future draft picks. They have given up waaaay too much young talent and draft picks in order to get Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. If they give up any more future picks they will be signing AND1 players at the league minimum salary for years to come. That actually might be interesting for a couple of games, haha.

Stoudamire has always had an outsized opinion of his own abilities. The main problem with adding him to the Celtics is that, in Damon’s mind, he would be the final piece to “the Big Four.” He has always loved to shoot and there’s no reason to believe that’s changed.
Generally, the C’s needs more veterans, whether than means picking up players cut by other teams during training camp, the remaining free agent pool, or the inevitable midseason buyouts…but whatever the source, Damon is a bad fit.
Owenz- I don’t find Stoudamire’s desire for shooting to be a bad thing: We sent away 3 shooters in the trades we meade in West, Wally, and Green (4 if you count Gomes developing range). House helps fill tnhis volid, but it’d be a win for us to have someone with a good handle to backup Rondo.
Tunez- Do you think that KG, PP and RA will really let Stoudamire be a problem? His @ss will be clamped down quick if he decided to pop off.

Damon is not our man. he wants to start and star for a team. we don’t need that. we have the stuff let hold them for a while. I am even willing to hold on to Scalibrine rather than acquire Damon.

sleepy pete the guys a proven chucker… we drafted him and put him in a role where he had to do everything from pass, to shoot, to pass to shoot, to shoot and shoot some more… his level of play declined fast but his but any reluctance to take wild 3’s did not. I remember a game this past season between the Raps and Grizz and he legitimately destroyed any momentum/chemistry the Grizz had by walking up the court and bricking a 3 continously. the question the Celtics need an answer to is “do we want a point guard or a shooting guard at the point”?
Tunez- I appreciate your insight and candidness. He’s not an option. We’ll let House take his shots, and then Tony Allen take those when he is healthy.
I’ in favor of a strong, quick point guard, who can drive the ball down the court to the big men under the hoop.
