ESPN will probably show you a ton of LeBron James highlights… but it was Drew Gooden that killed the Boston Celtics, ultimately leading to a 109-104 overtime loss. Bron Bron handled the overtime scoring duties… but Gooden was unstoppable in the 3rd and 4th quarters…He finished with 24 pts (11-15 FG) and 13 rebounds. Not bad for a man with the worst beard in all of sports.
Sorry, but I can ignore the fact that Killer Ray Allen missed two free throws as the game was tied at 92 with 22 seconds left in the 4th quarter. There were a lot of reasons the C’s lost this game, but watching Ray miss two free throws with the game on the line is simply stunning. And when did it become acceptable in the NBA for superstars to dribble out 21 seconds on the clock and then hoist a deep jumper at the buzzer? That shot by LeBron was just awful. How about running a play? A screen? Or actually have the 4 others guys on the court move? It was hideous and that’s one example of why team basketball in the NBA is still subpar.
We also want to call out KG. Please take more shots. I love Ray and Paul, but I’d much rather have Garnett taking shots around the basket then those guys bombing away. He needs to be more aggressive. Doc Rivers needs to tell the guys to get him the ball.
Check out Wyc Grousbeck’s full interview with the lovely Lisa Hughes on WBZ. And Banner 17 - a column by our buddy Pete Masucci is a damn good read.
And finally, I want to give a shout out to my new nephew, Chase Brisebois. The little guy arrived late Monday night. Your uncle can’t wait to take you to the Garden.
