Despite the win over Portland, I’m in full blown panic mode. How bad is it? I’m comparing the Celtics to the pre-2004 Red Sox.
As I wrote last week, this was supposed to be the statement road trip. The moment where we punch Stephen A. Smith and other doubters square in the face. Instead, we are getting pelted with a barrage of “I told you the Celtics weren’t that good!” Are we not that good? Remember what it was like to be a Red Sox fan pre-2004? There was all that early season enthusiasm and false confidence as we raced out to a fast start. We ignored critics who said this wouldn’t and couldn’t last and watched in horror as everything slipped away by August. I’m getting that sick feeling again.
Want more bad news? The Celtics have slipped to 7th in the latest SI power rankings.
Before you panic too much, take a deep breath, a shot of tequila (I’m prescribing this so I think it would be wise) and realize that it was just a few games in a bad streak. Flash back to last March when they had an EIGHTEEN game loosing streak. Take another deep breath.
All that being said, I’m a little panicked, too. Not tons, just a little. Breathing.
No need to panic, the Celtics will be fine come playoff time. If you look at there remaining 28 games, only 6 opponents look tough, so they could easily go 22-6 the rest of the way (maybe better).
Yes, this roadtrip was a big test and if they return home going 2-3 (Clips should crumble, they usually do), ill be fine with that-considering they didn’t quit in Denver, got beat at the buzzer in Oakland and were brick city in Phoenix.
Garnett will get back in the flow, Rondo is proving doubters wrong all year and Pierce should keep taking over games which in turn opens up our gunners-Allen(s), Posey and House. AND….the Celts have yet to make a mid-season deal….c’mon Danny, grab Barry or Magloire ASAP
