So… Who Loses Minutes?

I’m going to work on the assumption that Sam Cassell clears waivers and signs with the Celtics.  However… with this damn story… who the hell knows how it will end.

So the C’s will add PJ Brown and Sam Cassell… so the question becomes… who loses minutes?  Someone will have to.  Is it Eddie House?  Rajon Rondo?  Rajon is averaging 30 mpg…. should he be playing less?  Eddie House is playing less than 20.  Does this maybe cut Ray Allen’s minutes down a little?

How about in the front court?  Will Leon Powe get buried again… after making the most out of every opportunity he’s had?  Is Glen Davis getting buried?  Does it depend on matchup?

I think this is a great opportunity to dial back some of Allen’s minutes.  You can even cut some from Paul if you want… and maybe trot out a lineup of Rondo, Cassell and Posey for a short stretch.  KG can even catch a little break with a 6′11 PJ Brown taking some minutes.  Granted… Brown will play far fewer minutes than Sam… but its an option.

Here’s my only worry.  Doc Rivers has a problem with deep rotations.  Its an obvious weakness… and giving him 2 more options that deserve time…  I have a fear that we might some some weird rotations for a little while.

  1. I was thinking about this last night, does this mean the end for Scalls? Scott Polard? pretty sure we won’t be seeing Gabe Pruitt again this season. I will say one thing you can never have enough proven depth on your bench.

  2. I would say you’re pretty much right on with the names you mentioned. Pruitt will go back to the NBDL.. Pollard is done… and we should probably never see Scal again once Brown is ready.

  3. yeah, let’s bury scal, send pruitt back down, and then dial back kg, pp, and ra’s minutes. rondo needs his minutes, it’s working too well to cut him back. house could maybe get cut back to the 15 min range but not too much as we want him to stay loose. the main thing is he won’t have to run the point.

i’m going to be worried, and join the “doc doesn’t know rotations” chorus if we see rondo lose minutes. that would be very bad. and if we ever see scal on the court, except when a few bigs are injured, then we’ll know for sure that doc has an incurable blind spot.

  4. Sammy’s first game is prob going to be the Pistons game. That is awesome.

  5. Yea, I think that House is the guy that will be squeezed here. Look, if there is one thing that we’ve seen over the past few years, it is that Doc Rivers will not squeeze Tony Allen’s minutes. He loves Tony, and that just will not happen. Posey remains the top guy off the bench, even with Cassell and Brown, and he deserves to be playing almost 30 minutes a game. In big games, I’m afraid we won’t see Powe and Baby. However, there will still be plenty of opportunities, like tonight, to let Powe go at it. Basically you’ve got Cassell backing up the 1, TA the 2, Posey the 3+4, Brown the 4+5(sometimes) and House will have to grab minutes wherever he can find them.
One final thing, how many more times can Pruitt go back to the D-League?

  6. i would like to see cassel at the 1. house at the 2. tony allen at the 3. posey at the 4. and brown at the 5. its small, but what else is new? and we can take out house or allen, and insert powe/baby and move pose up to the three and go big. the best part is i get to hear all the house haters bitching about he should be at the two. i agree that doc (or is it ainge) will never leave out TA. powe, big baby, and pollard will hopefully get minutes when they can. we have to remember that perk has been playing less minutes than most starters.

hopefully, everyone will get more rest, especially the big 3 and i will never ever see scal off the bench except for during time outs.

pruitt can only go back to the d-league once i believe. i’m not sure the celtics will do it even with cassell here now. we havent needed pruitt for awhile now and hes stayed. maybe he’s like super-helpful in practices or soemthing.

  7. see I am not totally sold on the P.J. Brown thing, he has been out of the league to long. As far as Doc’s rotation should go Baby and Leon have played well enough to start for most of the eastern teams, those minutes are hard enough to come by for those guys, they out performe each other when one is getting hot and the other one sits for a while. I would rather Scals or Pollard over P.J. Brown. in my opinion those who have been there deserve the time. Any which way this argument goes it is awsome that this is what we have to complain about now. Go Celts 17 not to far away!!!!!!!!!!
