Payback

Revenge is sweet. Or it’s a dish best served cold. Whatever. The Celtics avenged their embarassing February loss to the Suns by smoking Phoenix, 117-97 at the Garden.  The C’s played a near flawless second half, holding the Suns to just 40 points. Last time I checked, the Suns were a running team. They had exactly 2 fast break points tonight. KG (30 points, 6 asst, 3 reb) was an absolute beast. Paul Pierce (27 pts, 6 reb) scorched anyone who guarded him for 12 pts in the 4th. Rajon Rondo (14 pts, 6 reb, 6 asst) had the move of the night when he nearly broke Steve Nash’s ankles on a drive to the hoop. But our star of the game was Doc Rivers. He clearly read Red’s Army over the past few days and changed up his rotations.

And kudos to this Garden crowd who brought back the KG – MVP chant.

  1. I think what we saw was the difference between “experimentation” and “sending a message”. And yes… it’s obvious Doc’s a reader… because he’s been doing exactly what we say.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll post that their next “experiment” should be signing me to a 10 day contract.

  2. That was nice. Fridays game is our last real challenge, beating every team in the league and getting some payback on a team that we lost to (not beat us). And when the Celts win that game, the magic number will be 5. Five wins to lockup homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs (including the finals), against sub .500 teams [Miami Chicago Indiana Charlotte Milwaukee Washington-above .500 barely- Milwaukee Atlanta New York New Jersey]. ITS GOOD TO BE A CELTICS FAN!

  3. Would love to hear more Paul Pierce-MVP chants… Imo, PP is the heart of the team….Great game!!!

  4. I agree… KG came in and changed the attitude… but the case can certainly be made that Paul changing his game, being more unselfish and playing more D, was the key to that new attitude taking hold.

Hmmm.. maybe that should be its own post

  5. I vote Pierce for MVP!

  6. I’m glad MVPierce is gaining steam. KG even knows it. Paul is the effing man. I can’t wait to see him holding that Larry O’Brien trophy!
