Paul Pierce (who isn’t even with the team), Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett are getting the night off
Celtics All-Stars Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen will get tonight’s game against the Bobcats off to get rest. Boston’s magic number, combination of its wins and Detroit losses, is down to one to get homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs. Celtics coach Doc Rivers said that whether Garnett, Pierce or Allen play in remaining regular-season games will be decided on a game-to-game basis. Rivers not only would like to get the three All-Stars rest during the rest of the regular-season, but would also like to get his bench more minutes before the playoffs.
Pierce didn’t make the trip to Charlotte due to the birth of his newborn daughter, Prianna Lee, on Friday in Boston. The six-time NBA All-Star is expected to meet the Celtics in Milwaukee on Monday and the mother, fiancee Julie Landrum, could be coming home Sunday. A Celtics release said Pierce is “so amazed and psyched.”
