Exhibit B

This is the play on which Paul Pierce fouled out.  It happens right at the beginning of the clip, at the other side of the lane.

I think the best part is… I’m not sure Pachulia even realized he drew the foul.

Horrible… horrible call.  I’m willing to bet that happens on every play in the NBA.  That, to me, was such a non-call… it makes me think they were looking for a reason to call something on Pierce.

  1. The announcers made a big case about how “experienced” a group of officials there were tonight at the beginning of the game. Joey Crawford (who resigned after being suspended last year for tossing Duncan for personal reasons, you may remember) and Bob Delaney (he of the much vaunted autobiography about his dual life as an undercover cop and NBA ref) for sure worked the game, I forget who the third ref was.

Is it in anyone else’s head that these refs would be the ones appointed to tilt a game, not inexperienced ones, because they should be able to do it most subtly?

Obviously they weren’t subtle, if the goal was to give the Hawks a slight edge. Nor was the edge slight.

In addition to these two exhibits I’d like to see Pierce’s first foul right at the beginning of the game when he “jump-balled” Horford, who got bailed out.

Also, there was definitely a loose ball foul (that should have been called) on Zaza right before he “got fouled” by Posey sometime in the 3rd or early 4th quarter. Yeah, Posey fouled him, because there was no way he could have gotten the rebound with a hand on his shoulder.

I don’t remember other specific calls/non-calls, but all night I was yelling at the TV for the refs not to bail them out, and to call things both ways.

  3. It looks like our little friend ajay has never been to a basketball game before, or any type of competitive sporting event for that matter. If she/he had ever been to one, she’d/he’d know how that chant goes.

By the way ajay, what team will you root for when the lakers go downhill? You are a fairweather fan. You’ve talked smack on other blogs before as a “Spurs” fan and a “Heat” fan. Who will it be next?

  4. It’s not a good call–I don’t think Pierce actually impeded Zaza in any way–but I don’t think you can have THAT many complaints when you wrap BOTH hands around your opponent’s waist as a shot goes up. Plus: if Pierce is correctly called for an offensive foul as he bowls over Smith on that one drive earlier in the game, he might have been long gone by this point. Same argument applies to the early foul drawn by Horford: yeah, it should have been a jumpball, but just moments later Horford was whistled for an obviously clean block on Garnett.

The bottom line is that the calls evened out for the most part, and even if they slightly tilted in Atlanta’s favor in this game, rest assured that Hawks fans thought they tilted in the C’s favor in Game 5 and most likely will again in Game 7. In short: quit yer bellyachin’.

  6. Lol a Boston fan calling a Laker fan a fairweather fan? I found it hilarious when a fan quoted what Mike Bibby had to say about you bandwagon fans on a poster and had Bibby’s stats for the first game on there as well. Bibby’s poor performance did not change the fact that what he said was true.. there was no point in highlighting his stats. Yeah he had a bad game.. doesn’t change the fact that most of you still have tags on your Boston jerseys. GO LAKERSS

  7. Doc made a great point when he said “if it was an off ball foul why did the basket count? It can’t be both.”

  9. Garnett is the tallest man on the floor and is never within three feet of the basket at anytime. He needs to lose the fade away, lose the pass first mentality, grow some stones and take it to the rack. The more he and Pierce take it inside and draw contact the easier it will be to score inside later in the game when the Hawks are in foul trouble.
Re: the officiating The touch fouls against Ray Allen were laughable but the play with Pierce was the final proof of the tilt. That isn’t a call you make with a few minutes left in a deciding game 6.
