“A Great Chance I’ll Play Sunday”

Update:  WBZ has posted video of the 7 minute news conference in which Pierce updates everyone on his condition, and he blows off people who accuse him of faking.

Paul Pierce talked about his injury today… and the Globe reports the news seems good:

“I can walk on it, I can bend it, but there’s a little sharp pain on the inside of my knee,” said Pierce. “There’s a little pain in there right now so I’m going to keep it wrapped, iced.”

Pierce said he would be receiving treatment 2-3 times a day to see if his knee responds. He was asked the million dollar question: Will he play in Game 2?

“I think there’s a great chance I’ll play on Sunday,” Pierce said, who acknowledged that it’s still possible he could miss the game. “If the game was today I most likely would not play.”

This is actually great news… because Doc Rivers told WEEI this morning that if Pierce doesn’t play… Tony Allen might start game 2.  Tony Allen… who has been racking up DNP’s in the playoffs… could get the start.  Yikes.

  1. in defense of tony allen the last time pierce got hurt tony came up big and started to play like a future all star, that was fun to watch to bad it only lasted for like 2 weeks before the whole dunk after the whistle thing happened

  2. Paul Pierce is a Superstar. He may never get an MVP, but a ring and Finals MVP this year would make him a legend.

I still like Tony in this series. At the very least, give him some minutes, let him shake off the nerves/rust and see if his head is in the game. It rests Pierce a little more and runs a 3rd/4th defender at Kobe (Pierce Posey Ray Tony).

  3. I know Tony has done well in the past…. but I don’t think the Finals are where anyone should be shaking off rust….

…. unless we’re up 30. Then its Scallie time.

  4. Starting Tony Allen had to be a joke right?

  5. oh i was in no way condoning some tony time in the finals i was just saying that for future references, like when it comes time to decide whether to sign him or not next year, that tony wasnt always the sparadic version of himself that he is today,

he started on a playoff team his rookie year for crying out loud

but in all seriousness tony should be deactivated immediately in case of a big lead and some scal time to be available that would be the second sweetest thing to an nba finals win right now

  6. FD must being salivating at the mouth after hearing TA might Get the start never mind playing time.

  7. i have a feeling that paul is going to play especially after the undeserved bashing from the media he got for heading to the lockeroom in a wheelchair

newsflash to the media paul was rolled out on a wheelchair cause the doctors did not want him to put pressure on his leg it was not part of his theatrics

if you listened to michelle tafoya even she reported last night that the doctors didnt want pierce to put any pressure on and he had to beg them to let him at least try it and see how he feels

    the truth=tough

  8. did you hear james worthy blast paul pierce on espn the radio (not sure what particular show either mike and mike or the jim rome i dont talk sports show i believe) he said this wasnt the first time pierce has been rolled off in a wheel chair and that it was all part of his theatrics and went so far as to call him soft

please bash him i would love that more than james worthy loves prostitutes

  9. Seeing the reaction to this today really pissed me off.

Once upon a time…. an athlete would be celebrated for gutting out an injury and coming back to play. Now, assholes who never played anything… and don’t know what its like to play on adrenaline… are calling him out.

But there is NO reason for him to fake the injury. None. It makes no sense.

Check this out at IntentionalFoul.com. Its a great piece on the forethought it would have taken for Pierce to pull off what Plaschke accused him of.

Plaschke is just such a fucking douchebag… for creating a pile of shit that some people are actually buying into.

  10. i hope plaschke’s on around the horn today and someone calls him out on his biased stupidity

    good link by the way

  11. Plaschke wasn’t on ATH today, but the entire panel, including that idiot Mariotti, ripped him to shreds for what he said.

  12. OK, I agree, Tony should never be a starter for the Celts, and garbage time is made for Scal.

But, how about a little time for Tony in L.A.? Not for his offense, but some defense and rest for Pierce.
He started in the Flaker game here in L.A., played 42 minutes, scored 16 on %50 shooting and hit 5/5 on his throws. Helped slow Kobe to 22 pts on 6/25 shooting and 0/6 on this 3’s.

Ill leave it to rest now, but I support Tony in this series.

  13. Posey or Powe but NOT TA. God Dammit Doc, I want Scallie suited up for game 2. GO CELTICS!

  14. if I hear one more reference to Paul Pierce pulling a Willis Reed last night, I’m going to hang myself.

Willis Reed was legitimately hurt when he limped out onto the floor in Game 7 of the 1970 Finals. He was hurt so bad, he couldn’t play more than 15 minutes that game. He was dragging his leg as he ran up the court.

Pierce was carried off to the locker room because he said he heard a pop but miraculously his “injured knee” didn’t stop him from taking one of the worst flops I’ve ever seen on Derrick Fisher.

It was as if he transformed himself into the black version of Manu Ginobili.

    Truly an embarrassment to basketball.

As my sister would say so eloquently Mr. Pierce,

Save the Drama for yo mama.
