Tick Tock

The clock is ticking closer to midnight and still no word on whether Tony Allen has been extended a qualifying offer.  We’ll be watching the situation past midnight for all of you night owls around town… and for those of you out west and around the world checking in.  Stay tuned for any updates.

Meanwhile, for those of you entertaining thoughts of Ryan Gomes… Minnesota made him a qualifying offer… so they’d have the right to match any offers made to him.  They did the same to Craig Smith… but not for Sebastian Telfair… so Bassy is likely heading to his 4th team in 4 years.

I’m no fan of his (and I know some of you are) but I’ll freely admit that its hard to survive as a point guard in basketball playing for 4 teams in 4 years.  A little consistency and time to grow in one system will benefit him greatly.  If I’m his agent, I’m convincing him to find a place where he can sign a 2 or 3 year deal, no matter the money, so he can get some stability.

  1. I came here to check on the Tony Allen situation, and sure enough you guys are on top of it.

Where do you stand on Tony? Personally, I hope they tender him.

  2. I love Tony…. but as I’ve stated before, I think it’s best for Tony to go elsewhere. I think he can get more money elsewhere, and get more time to show what kind of player he really is. I just want what’s best for him, so I hope he finds a great situation with another team.

  3. Unless…. the C’s think that Posey isn’t likely to come back…. that changes the whole game.

  4. I hear ya, Tim, but if we tender him he can still go elsewhere but the C’s may be able to pick up a little something in a sign-and-trade. If he gets low-balled on the open market, he can always stay another year. I think he’s great Posey insurance, in case Big Game James gets an offer he can’t refuse.

  5. I’m so torn between Tony’s potential and Tony’s performance. We’ve seen him be so good…. and then we’ve seen him be so bad… and sometimes its been in the same game. I don’t like where his head’s at… but considering our financial situation, it might make sense to bring him back.

Now… to tender or not to tender… that’s where you’re rolling dice. If you think the qualifying offer is way above what the market will pay… then you don’t tender him and you hope to offer him a deal that matches someone else. If you think he’ll get around the tender number ($2.7 mil, I believe), then you make the qualifying offer and hope for the best.

  6. Well, I supPOZe that plan makes sense.

  7. yeah if you knew you were going to get the tony before the knee injury, that started his rookie year, that is a potential shut down defender, and that has freakish athleticism then i would bring him back, but if you knew you were gonna get the tony allen that dribbles it off his foot on a open fast break i would let him go elsewhere

i guess you can see that im pretty much torn on tony like almost every other celtics fan is

  8. since we are in agreement that the celtics need a backup big what’s evereyones thoughts on the celtics signing either a) patrick o’ bryant, b) fransico elson or c) …k.w..ame…b..row…n (wow that was hard to get out) if they can’t get/afford a bigger name backup big, i know these guys aren’t exactly exciting but maybe one of them could get the job done

  9. oh my…kwame Brown!! u got to be joking…he is horrible…would never work…his D is horrible and his lack of desire whould prob force KG to bite his head off…..literally!! Elson would not be bad…he is a hustle guy, how about Chris Anderson..he has turned his life around and would prob do well with our team and leadership around him….or Lorenzan Wright might have some left in the tank on the right team….I jsut about take anyone other than Kwame…..

  10. yea chris anderson kinda fell under the bigger name big man for me, i mean his nickname’s the birdman he’s gotta be huge right?

here’s my rankings on the best available big for the c’s

1.desagna diop: probably unrealistic to think the c’s have much of a chance of getting him

    2. chris anderson: c’mon hes the birdman

    3. alonzo morning: if he can stay healthy

4: kurt thomas: although he wants to stay in texas

5: PJ brown: he’s only this high cause he’s a badass

6: fransico elson: not really sure what his game is like

7: Mutumbo: although he can just barely get up and down the court

8: patrick o’bryant: 7 footer drafted high complete bust, if we sign him lets hope he just didn’t garner playing time for the warriors because nellie didnt like the fact that his 3pt% would be around .0342%

9: robert swift: now we’re getting desperate

10: adonal foyle: their has to be somebody better right?

  11. I think you can sign me and Chuck… and we could play the whole game with Chuck sitting on my shoulders… and we’d still be better than the bottom half of that list.

    I don’t know… the options are slim

  12. yea it got pretty bad… the good news is that the sonics offered swift a tenure so he probably won’t be a celtic

im kinda want the birdman in boston i think he’d be a good fit, maybe i’m overestimating him cause his nicknames the birdman

  13. Birdman is the best big. Diop would fit but he’s probably going back to Dallas. Elson’s not terrible, he’d be a big upgrade over Pollard, and more likely to be healthy, then we bring in PJ at playoff time again.

  14. Yeah Diop is prob gonna go back to Mavs, Birdman i think would be a good fit and I bet would be a huge fan favorite once he got worked into the lineup….Zo would be great too, tough as nails D but lately injury prone…..Elson not bad either….it is slim pickens for a free agent big….maybe we could talk some older retired guys to come in like PJ did….like say……Kevin Willis, Dale Davis…or even Dennis Rodman….LOL

  15. oh and to fill our backup PG role since SAM really didnt work out…how about talkin Jalen Rose out of Retirement…hmmm he’s like 4 years younger than Sam and talk about a nice big PG….prob get him cheap to……

  16. i really dont see the celtics competing with the likes of jalen rose or kevin willis playing significant, wait scratch that, any minutes

  17. i am gonna show this to my friend, bro
