Danny’s denials be damned… the Celtics have made an offer to Corey Maggette. Not only that, The Globe reports he got a call from Doc Rivers.
“I talked to Doc… I’m not going to hold them up. I know they are still looking at James Posey. But I’m still weighing my options.”
As for his potential reserve role with the Celtics:
“I don’t mind. If you want to win, you have to make sacrifices. With their caliber of players, that’s what you have to do. Going to a championship team would be exciting to me. Going to a team that can win and has tradition is exciting.
Another person who talked to Maggette is former teammate Sam Cassell… who told him “come out to get a ring.”
No one’s taking the 4th of July off in Waltham… with Patrick O’Bryant coming into town to work out. Pacers free agent David Harrison and Timberwolves free agent Kirk Snyder were in town, along with Chris Andersen, for workouts yesterday.
I love where the Celtics are now. Check out what Harrison said about working out for the C’s:

A year ago, no one would really even return Danny’s phone calls… now they’re all kissing his ring and thanking him for the opportunity to walk through the door.
I know the emotional attachment to Posey is very strong after his recent performances but we need to be realistic. The guy is 32 and at least one GM is bound to offer him at least 4, possibly 5 years. We shouldn’t offer anymore than 3, I’d honestly not want much more than 2 if we could get away with it. Reality check – Posey is not an all-star, a very valuable role player he may be but that’s it. We can’t blame Posey for going and getting paid after tasting the sweetest of champagne for a second time. Magette at the MLE is a steal. He could get more $ with a few teams and definetly get more playing time & touches elsewhere. If he’s willing to throw that away for a chance at a ring he sounds like a Celtic to me. I know his effort on D is questionable at times but I’m sure that a guy like KG and the enthusiasm of playing for the C’s can fix that quick – he’ll get told about it real quick ( I have a picture of KG giving one of those death-stares when he thinks that a player didn’t give it his all in my mind ). Magette can provide another explosive scoring option that the C’s sometimes seemed to lack and would give our 2nd unit a genuine play-maker as Magette can also create his own shot in a way that Posey can’t. He may not be as good a 3-point shooter as posey but you can’t have everything. Anyway didn’t J.R get drafted for his nasty D?
Maggette listen to Doc and ET. Be our Manu for 2 years then have an opportunity to switch into the starting rotation when Ray Ray’s contract is up.
To play armchair agent I would advise Corey to sign two years with boston or at least have a player option at two years.
If I were Ainge I’d try to wrap Magette up for 4-5 years at this bargain basement rate. Maybe add a team option in case he doesn’t work out.
Why not start Magette and have Allen come off the bench. Depending on who the C’s are playing Doc should just go for what ever match up is best that night.
I think we should be trying to get Posey signed before anybody else!!! Just my opinion. Go with what is proven.
Sounds like the denials about the Maggette offer were floated so as not to piss off Posey’s camp…consider that mission unaccomplished. If they really offered him 3yrs/$12M, that sounds like they don’t want to use the MLE on him. You have to figure one team is gong to offer at least 4 yrs at max MLE.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens if Danny can’t get either of those guys. My guess is Tony is the fallback.
No way Po-Z accepts a 3-year 12 million dollar deal. In fact, I bet he’s pissed off.
There’s no hometown discount when you arrive someplace and then help clean up, landscape , paint and build a new deck for said home.
Poze did us a favor so it makes sense he’d want compensation in return. Full MLE for less years is worth trying but 12 million over three?!?
