I actually started this post an hour ago… but this is what happened to me after writing that headline. The Clippers hold A LOT of cards this offseason… which means they have the potential to determining the fate of A LOT of teams.
And because all of the stuff we’ve been hearing is happening during the dead period, it’s all words and handshakes. Hands have been tipped. Golden State knows its losing Baron Davis… even though it hasn’t lost him yet. All this “player movement” is theoretical… which means until later this week, sign and trades can still be worked out. CelticsBlog found an interesting scenario on Clips Nation.
Golden State receives thier choice of Rasheed Wallace, Chauncey Billups or Richard Hamilton.
Detroit receives Corey Maggette and Brevin Knight (salary matching purposes).
Los Angeles Clippers receive Baron Davis.
The Clippers, I suppose, would benefit in all of this by… dumping Brevin Knight? He’s only making $2 mil and he’s in the last year of his deal. I guess that means more money for Brand.
All I know is that all the talk of trades, signings and renounced rights is still all talk. That means the Clips are in the driver’s seat this offseason.
God help us all.
I know this is a bit off topic but are the Celtics in a summer league this year? I know they’re not in the Orlando or Vegas one; is there another one? I’ve searched high and low for an answer, couldn’t find anything and figured you guys would be in the know. Love the site. keep up the great work.
thanks for the kind words.
No summer league for the c’s this year. They fielded that mini-camp instead.
Scanners great clip….. I thought I was over that trama….I think i was 11 when i saw that….. back to thearpy thanks bring that up…..it still freaks me out
Frankly, I’m glad the Clippers are at least trying. They’ll crowd the playoff picture even more in the West (assuming health). If Maggette goes to SAS and someone from the East goes West for Golden State’s dollars (Josh Smith or Childress, hopefully) then Boston’s road to the finals is clearer.
What I don’t want is:
Maggette comes East but not to Boston, especially for cheap.
Posey goes (especially to another East contender) elsewhere OR we overpay to keep him.
Detroit makes a serious move.
Elgin Baylor controlling the fates of multiple teams? Holy sh*t forget the mortgage crisis, the war and the election things are really getting scary now.
This is great news for me any ways as a Laker fan here’s an update on Posey and key sentences
http://lakers.freedomblogging.com/2008/07/07/posey-unhappy-with-celtics-offer-lakers-next/
“Posey reportedly feels the Celtics’ offer falls short of the $5.8 million mid-level exception as well as his desire for a 4-to 5-year deal. Funny, that’s amount the Lakers have available at the moment. Deadline for signing free agents begins Wednesday. Stay tuned.”
I could have sworn the Clippers left the NBA in 2001. You mean they’ve been in the league this whole time?
How can you say that with Brand (despite injuries) has been the face of the Clippers of late and how they were two wins away from the Conference finals two years ago?!?
I’m with you if your suggesting that LA should have only one team though….
Why would Detroit do this they don’t benefit replacing Richard Hamilton, Billups, or Rasheed with Corey Maggette and Brevin Knight.
