The Celtics are supposedly pursuing both James Posey and Corey Maggette. The hope is we get one of those guys. It’s possible, however, that we’ll get neither.
On the day before NBA free agents can begin signing contracts, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported this morning that the Hornets are zeroed in on former Celtics swingman James Posey. Meanwhile, the San Antonio Express-News suggested that the Spurs are at the front of the line for Corey Maggette.
I’ll admit… that would suck… but its not the end of the world. I want Posey back… but we just can’t blow the whole MLE on him this year to lock him up until he’s 37. There are other holes to fill.
I would sign Posey so the C’s can be in the best position to win it all for the next couple of years.
So be it if its a 5 yr deal. The team is probably going to be in a rebuilding period in 4 or 5 years anyways, atleast we got posey’s best for 2-3 years with the a championship caliber team (& hopefully 2 or 3 rings). The C’s might as well go ALL IN!!
No Contracts for Old Men is Danny’s motto apparently. I can’t really disagree…although I was watching the replay of Game 1 against the Lakers on the 4th, and I was getting queasy thinking of life without Posey…
But you’re right, how would we even fill the other holes if Pose gets the whole MLE? What kind of decent center can we get for the vet minimum? In a lot of ways, the Cs were very fortunate to get PJ Brown. And if we give Maggette the full MLE, we’ve got the same problem…Can’t wait for this drama to resolve itself.
Exactly G4L. The Celtics have a chance to win atleast one more championship over the next 2 or 3 years with the current stars. Pay the $$ to keep the “BIG 6″ together. PoZ has bought into this team, reward him Danny.
As far as the other holes, I think the other 4 Celtic free-agents will be gone, so there’s a little spending room. And we don’t really need any more stars, just solid minutes from the role players. If we don’t sign PoZ, we’re not getting a star with the MLE anyway.
I might be an optimist, but this Celts team can win two to three more championships. I think KG has some good years left in him and LOVES it here. Pierce is obviously here for life. The only question mark to me is Ray Ray, but how could he leave…I don’t think he will.

If Posey goes to New Orleans, we should grab Bonzi Wells from them. He only made $2.2 million last year and can still score and rebound.
Maggette signed with the warriors, ESPN.com reporting the verbal agreement. Ok Danny time to put all the marbles on Posey, gotta get him signed.
