It’s Us Vs. New Orleans

"This creepy gaze won't keep you from coming back next year... will it?"

"This creepy gaze won't keep you from coming back next year... will it?"

That is, if you believe Mark Stein:

James Posey remains the most coveted unrestricted free agent still on the market and New Orleans is being increasingly described as perhaps the biggest threat to Boston keeping him.

The champs are said to be reluctant to offer the 31-year-old a deal longer than three years starting at the $5.6 million midlevel exception, but the Celtics are bracing for a difficult decision depending on how high rival suitors are willing to bid, and given Posey’s immeasurable contributions to their title run.

It’s all about the 4th year.  I don’t blame him for going for it… and I don’t blame teams for not giving it.  The Cavs seem to be out, and the Wizards are also interested… but aren’t in a financial position to make an adequate pitch yet.  Meanwhile, count Ray Allen as the latest member of the Big 3 to chime in about bringing The Mongoose back:

“He’s a big priority for us for the offseason. We hope that he decides to come back. He was a big cog, and we definitely want him back on our roster,” Allen said.  “He doesn’t feel like he has to be a part of the offense, but he can score and defensively he affects the game,” Allen said. “He does all of the intangibles, and he’s very confident about going out there and doing the things with what we got.”

He, like Paul Pierce, is also REALLY soaking in the post-championship love.  Part of the victory tour includes Wednesday’s ESPY’s taping.  Scott Souza take a great look at the transformation of Paul Pierce… who has really become one of the happiest guys in the Boston Sports scene.

As for the rest of the roster, Scott shows us how Patrick O’Bryant’s workout 2 years ago, played a role in him signing this year

Jess Camerato catches up to Gerald Greenat the Vegas summer league.  Gerald is up to his old tricks… and so, apparently, are the Knicks… who passed up an easy chance to dump the bloated Zach Randolph and his even more bloated contract.

And finally… the Celtics dancer auditions were held yesterday.  Here’s the auditions photo gallery… and here’s the finalists gallery.

  2. You need to consider who the Celtics will bring in to replace Posey….with Maggette, Pietrus and James Jones already signed…who else is left? I don’t want to go the fourth year either…but if that means we are stuck with Tony Allen has our 6th man….

  3. You could always go the 4th year and use that 4th year, if necessary, as an expiring contract trading piece.

I’m glad I’m not a GM. There’s too much to think about… and thinking is not my strong suit

  4. Exactly! (to both counts) First, who else could we get with our MLE? PoZ looks like the only guy worth it. Second, PoZ should still be a great 6th man for atleast 3 or 4 years, he’s not playing 40 minutes a game. So give him the 4-year (maybe even the 5th as a team option) and you could trade away his expiring 4th year if you needed to?

I like the 7 footer, we still need a backup PG-even if Sam returns, although I would like to see what Pruitt can do-AND we need the Mongoose in Kelly Green for years to come!

And the Flakers still suck! I know its only summer league, but it still makes me smile!

  5. How about Bonzi Wells? If James Posey does leave.

  6. Pass. I don’t like Wells at all

  7. bonzi’s a panzi
