He’s Gone

“We had a problem. You know what I mean. He’s gone. And we couldn’t do nothing about it.”

James Posey has signed a four-year deal with the New Orleans Hornets worth $25 million. That’s big time money for a guy who plays 15-20 minutes per night. We loved you Po-Z and wanted you to stay, but not at that money.

“It was a really tough decision for him,” Bartelstein said. “Boston was an incredible experience for him every way you look at it. If he was going to leave Boston, he wanted to make sure it was for a team that would compete for championship immediately and the Hornets certainly are in that world.”

We liked James and we wanted him back,” Celtics general manager Danny Ainge said. “He got a good deal in New Orleans. We were unwilling to go four years.”

Before everyone starts going all crazy, let’s take a hard look at Posey’s stats in the playoffs: 6.7 points and 3.6 rebounds. He did a helluva job on the defensive end and hit some huge 3s, but the Celtics can repeat without the Mongoose.

My favorite Posey moments:

-His 3-point dagger with 1 minute left in Game 4 of the Finals which capped the greatest playoff comeback ever.

-The steal on Tayshaun Prince with some 2 minutes left in Game 6 of the ECF. It sealed the game and the series.

On second thought…

  1. WTF I clicked over a second ago and he was going to sign with us and all of a sudden this!

Can’t Blame the guy for going for the money! I bet TA is now a sure lock to comeback and play for the C’s…

Eddie House might be a lock too.

  2. Atleast he went to the West (and not to the Flakers). He helped get us banner 17, and showed the rest of the League his value on a contender. We couldn’t offer him what he wanted so he jumped ship.

You know what? He wasn’t that good anyway-couldn’t create his own shot (had to have a wide open look), not a very good rebounder for a forward, barley got any assists, not much athleticism and getting a little old now. He’s gonna suck now, good riddance!

    I MISS HIM ALREADY!

  3. What shit heel a guy like Bartlestein is. It was so incredibly “hard a decision” to leave, that he pulled the trigger over five million more dollars!?!

Like three years and 20 million isn’t enough to set up your family for life? And what about the rest of the money he’s made over his eight-plus year career? It’s not like he’s been making minimum wage.

I don’t mind James taking the money, hell he should get his one big contract, but don’t bullshit us with this sentimentality crap. If you really wanted to be here you’d make the three year deal work and if Boston wouldn’t budge off of two years than maybe there’s a reason.

  4. :( i miss him….im crushed

  5. Well I’m glad we didn’t give in and offer him a 4 or 5 year deal to be honest. It really sucks to see him go but I like the hornets and don’t mind him going there as long as he’s not on the Lakers! Should be interesting to see what we end up doing with the MLE now…

  6. Maybe try and get a guy like Matt Barnes to sign a 1 or 2 year deal for cheap, along with trying to sign house and/or TA back?

  7. I think livingston would be a good sign…maybe not as a replacement for posey but we could probably get a nice defender for the min…livingston could be real good if he recovers and doesnt pull a tony allen

  8. I say bring eddie back and THE BIRDMAN!!!!!!!!!! and dont be sad about posey leaving, get pissed and boo him out of boston when the hornets come to town.

  9. Here’s my first reaction. What an IDIOT!!!

Remember when Diane left the gang at Cheers because she thought she could make it better elsewhere? At the height of the show.

Posey left Miami because we were the better chance to win a championship.

He left us for money? New Orleans won’t win. We have the best chance of winning again next year. IDIOT!

    $25 million two time champ
$20 million(?) four or five time champ.

    Hmmm…IDIOT!!!!

I wish him the best, though, and would hate for him to be booed. He is not a bad guy…just an IDIOT!!!

  10. What I want to know is this: Who is going to hug all the guys as they run onto the court and whisper words of inspiration into their ears??

I formally offer my services for such a task – and Danny won’t even have to offer me a dime!!

  11. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
    UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCC
    CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKK
    KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
    KKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. enter michael finley

  13. Woah there! Lets not go ahead and call Posey an idiot. First of all he has a jackass agent who pushed him to this decision and also Posey wanted the security of 4 years and who can blame him.

Also saying New Orleans isn’t going to win anything it stupid. They are a VERY VERY good team.

  14. If it will make anyone feel better, John Hollinger at ESPN thinks it was a dumb deal on the Hornets part:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=hollinger_john&page=Posey_Hornets-080716

  15. now that james is gone (insert crying here) i think we should go after finley and livingston or house

i would like that better than a lue, barnes combo

    what does everyone think?

in other news i heard when the celtics realized they weren’t gonna sign poze they offered a sign and trade for artest that would have been a bad kind of interesting

  16. Barnes is not so bad if you can get him cheap, he is obnoxious on defense, has his moments on offense. Not real hot on Lue or livingston, rather sign E. House and shop around a little more. Good Luck Posey, you hit the jackpot, but I just cant see the Hornets getting over the top. On the bright side, you’ll have the oportunity to kick Laker ass on a more frequent basis.

  17. I like Barnes, House, Gomes, Livingston and Lue in that order.

I wonder if not signing Posey *no longer the Mongoose or even PoZ* will effect Giddens contract?

  18. what about kareem rush, he can shoot threes

  19. or try to pry childress away from the hawks if they don;t match a full MLE offer

  20. I would LOVE childress…hes gunna be pretty good

  21. OMG guys!!! http://nbaroundtable.wordpress.com/2008/07/17/lue-joins-bucks/ Lue’s gone too!!!

  22. good…good riddance to Lue..he sucks…id much rather get livingston, house, childress, gomes or someone worthwhile

  23. thank GOD lue is gone

i say sign either childress and livingston or finley and house

  24. How about the machine? sasha vujacic? http://youtube.com/watch?v=7uOnCRzBrgg

  25. hahaha NO fuck that little whiny bitch..punching chairs and crying… and cuz he does gay stuff like this with his teammates

    http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e47/lenguarmada/1zxmj53-1.gif

  26. Anthony Carter, Matt Barnes, Birdman. Please get two of the three (or all three, but I don’t they’d split the MLE/one would take vet’s min).

Thank you for your time here Posey. I hope to see you in the finals next year (anyone besides the Lakers!).

  27. I’m glad Lue is gone, and NO WAY on Sasha. Hopefully this puts a little pressure on Danny to start making some moves SOON.

  28. Why is everyone so high on getting these “ok” bench players. The only interesting name I’ve seen is Gomes, because we know what he can offer the C’s night in and night out. Those other guys are all question marks. I would rather just sign TA and House, and maybe pick up Gomes.

  29. A sad day, Posey quickly became one of my favorites on a team stacked with all time favorites. Just a cool dude. But I always knew in the back of my head that he was probably a hired gun for a championship run.
I’m definitely cheering him on in N.O. though.

  30. Poz – good for you. You did what I did. made your fame here and took your fortune elsewhere. I wish you nothing but the best. Just don’t f*cking cross our paths again.

  31. Gomes would be a good get, but don’t slouch on Matt Barnes… Let me be the first to acknowledge [being from the NE] … if we havent seen a player before we think they suck [aka 'you guys' not going into joy comas the second we got KG and thinking he wasnt worth Big Al and Co.] .. Barnes is quick, long, athletic …basically a spark plug. Think back to when Golden State upset #1 seed Dallas; Barnes was a big part of that.

  32. Barnes would be the best of whats left, but I agree with Reds Army none of whats left is worth the full MLE. What teams have shown interest in TA? you gotta be sh*tten me.
