Meet Patrick O’Bryant

The newest Celtics back-up big man Dwayne Jones, Scot Pollard Patrick O’Bryant arrived in town saying all the right things. He’s thrilled to be here, it’s a fresh start, blah blah blah. But seriously, I can’t blame O’Bryant for being happy crazy Don Nelson isn’t looking over his shoulder.

Tyronn Lue sounds bummed he ended up with the Bucks (2 years, $5 million) instead of the Celtics. Lue said he would have taken a one year deal at $1.8 million to play here, but the C’s wouldn’t budge past $1.2 million.

“I’m disappointed,” Lue said. “We were trying to get it done there for so long. I don’t know why an extra [$600,000] was a big deal. I would have taken less than I took with Milwaukee. But they didn’t want to do it.”

Tyronn, here’s why the extra $600,000 is a big deal: You’re not that good.

There’s plenty of speculation but little substance regarding potential free-agents who could fill Posey’s shoes. Many blogs are throwing around the same names you read here.

  1. How things have changed. Now, even the backup centere named Patrick O’Bryant on the Boston Celtics isn’t a white dude.

  2. Not expecting too much from this guy right away. Is Zo still an option?

The Celtics are in talks with Barnes and others according to hoopsworld. I would really like Barnes as our 6th man. His numbers are comparable to Posey, he’s a little younger and he plays tough D. It may leave enough money to grab Livingston (or resign Tony) too.

  3. a lot of love on this site for Livingston. are we forgetting how nasty his injury was?

  4. no… its the reason why we can grab him at very cheap money.

  5. Speed, Defense, and more Speed down the line with livingston backing up rondo, but posey/brown/cassel showed us experience counts in the present.

  6. Wonder when people will bring up Taylor Coppenrath? :-)

Wondering if Dahntey Jones, Brandon Wallace or even Pat Carroll from last years Summer League are cheap options to consider

Even old friend Eric Williams is out there (he has to be late 30’s I guess)

  7. Here is a scary thought. Remember they were scouting Kedrick Brown in the summer league last year? Shudders

  8. I think its time now to sign Reggie Miller, Gary Payton, and Karl Malone. And if we can’t do that then its time for Joakim Noah!!!
