Tony and Eddie are coming back, according to the Herald.
According to Danny Ainge, the Celtics have agreed to terms with each on two-year contracts.
Ainge would not be specific on the financial figures, but according to a source, both are being paid in the mid-$2 million range.
In the case of House, the money is roughly half the mid-level exception of $5.585 million.
The Celtics did not have to use any of the mid-level on Allen, because he has been with the club four years and the team thus has his “Bird rights.”
So the team has retained a shooter and a defensive specialist… for less than the cost of James Posey, and for fewer years. AND… we’ve got some money left over to play with. Sounds good to me.
Now if we can only get 2006-2007, pre-injury Tony Allen… we’ll be golden.
Best news I’ve heard in a while. I’m really happy for Tony, I hope he can prove himself with some increased minutes this year. I think with Posey gone, Tony will play mostly the 3 this year and therefore any minutes that Tony was playing 2 last year, will shift to Eddie or Gabe Pruitt.
now its time to bring in Zo and D-Miles
Yeah, I’m happy for Tony too; I’m glad he’s sticking around. The next big decision is on Giddens and Walker. Seems like the ideal situation (for roster flexibility) would be to have one play in Europe this year, but I don’t think either one is going to be up for that.
This is good.
I hope Doc puts Tony through a rigorous ball-handling course this summer. I like the guy, but last year he had hands like stumps.
And the Detroit-esque rolling the dice every year era begins!
Just kidding. I’m glad we kept House, (makes Cassell expendable) and Tony. Hopefully TA will positively contribute, regularly, this year, and be our defensive stopper off the bench.
Can’t wait to see how the remaining cash and roster spots get used (if they do, though it might be February before they do).
Nice contracts (length and $$$) for some people who should give us very key minutes. Yes, Cassell could be a roster casualty w/ Rondo/House/Pruitt/T.Allen in the fold.
As for TA’s summer school, Danno, I think he needs a shrink rather than a Curley Neal. Playing more time at the 2 and 3 will drastically cut down on the times he’s pounding the ball. He needs to take one or 2 dribbles and G-O. He’s an emergency PG at best. We look better and better for 2010 , also.
Signing TA is kind of a desperation move but like you said if its the 2006-07 TA than Ainge looks like a geniusonce again.
i wonder if they still go after a small forward or just hope giddens is ready to accept the challenge, and if he is i really dont see any glaring needs on this team other than maybe another big or point, but for me i think house is a very good backup pg for rondo, and we can use pruitt in certain situations
the biggest problem for me is that now we have around 8 players who can play the 2 or 3 and as we all know doc isn’t the premier coach in the league at handling line-ups
From Marc Spears (in the Globe’s Celtic blog):
“Agent Mark Bartelstein, who also represents House, said the Celtics are interested in another of his free-agent clients: forward Devean George, who averaged 3.7 points per game for the Mavericks last season. The 31-year-old George played on three Lakers title teams.”
So apparently we want another wing. Perhaps this means one or maybe both rookies aren’t being signed whether they want to be or not…
Spears also had the numbers on Eddie, $2.7M for the first year, and $2.9M for the second…I’m kind of surprised the Celtics went that high on Eddie but good for him.
Mike, I think the extra luchini in House’s contract was for his kid’s salary.
Well, Little House on the Parquet earned it…
im happy to see TA back. he has unfinished business here. Hopefully next season will be the one where he reaches his potential (like perk last year). Out of those great ‘04 picks we had, I never thought Tony Allen would be the last man standing in a C’s uniform. Hopefully Ray will lock him in the gym and teach him how to shoot.
yes definitely great to have the HOUSE that eddie built back
and his kid too
if we could get matt barnes for about the same money as devean george, that would be a no-brainer. Barnes has been very productive when given minutes on a bad team.
Get Barnes, forget D. george, production way down and not that hot of a defender. TA had some moments last year, if he can keep his head straight he could be productive. E. House is a good guy, and works ok at point (and I’d rather see him than Sam I am).
Has PJ officially retired? Love to see him back.
how are we gonna get barnes? barnes signed with the suns
Crap – PHX got him for the veterans minimum. Still say skip george, he’d be a waste of money. Maybe the C’s should use last years model and leave a couple of seats open until the all star break. Maybe thats what Danny has been up to all along.
