Don’t Forget How Much We Hate The Hawks

I’m sure the Celtics don’t need any motivation to beat the 6-0 Hawks tonight, but I think a refresher on last year’s 7-game playoff series will do us all some good.

Mike Bibby got things started by calling us fair-weather fans. Red’s Army responded by calling for the “Rondo’s Better” chant and the fans delivered. Bibby proceeded to suck the entire series.

The Hawks tried to act tough. There was Josh Smith’s hard foul on Paul Pierce in Game 2. And then in Game 3, Al Horford hit a couple of big shots in the Hawks win and felt obliged to talk trash with Paul Pierce. The Truth responded with a “gang sign” which resulted in a $25K fine.

Game 4 brought the Zaza Pachulia headbutt on KG….which lead to Garnett tossing aside a referee. The Hawks won the game thanks to a crazy-hot Joe Johnson, but at least KG wasn’t suspended.

Game 5 was another Celtics blowout win at the Garden. It was also a momentous occasion because John and I sat in TD Banknorth’s luxury box.

My head nearly exploded during Game 6.

And in Game 7, the Celtics squeaked out a 34 point victory…highlited by a KG-throat slash gesture after a vicious dunk and this awesome quote: “Atlanta wanted it, this is what you get.”

So there you have it, a recap of last year’s wild playoff series with the Hawks. If tonight’s game has 1/10th the intensity, we’ll be in for a real treat.

  1. you should do everybody a favor and post the video clip of KG straight up body checking that bitch pachulia with a sick pick in game 7

  2. Better fix that typo before some awesome Hawks fan calls you dumb.

  3. ^Seconded

  4. Will Paul “I’m a millionaire Fake Gangsta from Inglewood” Pierce be throwing up anymore Blood gang signs this evening? I hope so. It should make the game much more interesting after Al destroys Perkins down low. Another question, are there any black people in Boston besides the Celtics? Everytime they show a crowd shot 99.9% is white except for one big black guy sitting in the front row behind the goal. Thats not a racist question its an observation I have noticed. New York, LA, Miami, Atl, Dallas, etc all seem to have minorities in their crowd but everytime I watch a Boston game its all White people in the stands and the one Asian trainer you guys have.

  5. What exactly are you trying to say about Boston, Mike? Sounds pretty racist to me…why else would you feel the need to post that on here?

  6. Hmmm,

Making “Paul Pierce is a Fake Gangsta” comments while asking if Boston has any black fans.

Nah, you’re not racist. You’re just a complete fucking retard.

  7. “why else would you feel the need to post that on here?”

Because as usual, when the Celtics are about to trounce a shit team like Atlanta, all their tired, stupid, lame fans show up here to troll the site.

It’s what happens when you’re the Champs, and they – Aren’t.

  8. Not racist.. growing up in different parts of the south I have always been surrounded by black people and when I watched the playoff series with the Boston last year I noticed this. When I attend Hawks games I would say it is 50% percent minority crowd, at least. (white people in the south tend to stick to SEC football and baseball, especially in these parts). It just seems that there is NO black people in the stands at Celtics games, take a look around tonight when you go to the game. I’m not trying to say anything about Boston it just struck me as weird seeing nothing but straight up Caucasians at a B ball game when I am used to being surrounded by African Americans at Hawks games. I’m assuming that Boston does not have as high as number of AA’s that Atlanta does so could be the disparity in your crowds right there.

  9. I know when I watch a game… I’m watching the players… not counting how many white people are in the stands. So to me… it sounds like you’re making shit up based on the perception of Boston.

The racial makeup of the fans at games is probably not much different than most stadiums.

Now can we get back to what’s happening tonight?

  10. Mike,

What a display of ignorance you are putting on. Quite impressive, really.

    Boston’s percentage of minorities: 50.2%
    Atlanta’s percentage of minorities: 38%

These are based on 2007 census estimates.

Go to either of those sites if you need the sources….moron.

  11. Why does the racial make up of a crowd matter? What does that have to do with anything at all? Seriously are you trying that bad to get a rise out of people? I’ll take you to a couple places in Boston and you can ask if there are any black people in Boston, I’ll probably leave though.

  12. watching the youtube clip above of Garnett’s cheap shot reminded me that he is not worth anything without two allstars next to him. Never did anything in Minnesota. Great defensive player, but mostly an overhyped dirty player who is as emotional as my girlfriend on her period. Go cry somewhere in an interview Kevin.

  13. Wouldn’t it be MORE racist that the “white people in the South” tend to stick to SEC football rather than NBA Basketball?

I would think the fact that the Celtics are a nearly 100% Black team (not including Scal, obviously) yet the crowd you can see from TV cameras that the Garden is filled with white folks would indicate that the white folks in Boston AREN’T ashamed/afraid/too racist to root for an all black team – unlike the lynchers/Cross burners down South.

Not to mention – Atlanta has a tough time filling their arena on any given night, whereas the Celtics entire season is pretty much sold out. I would guess a lot of the people you see at Atlanta games are attending with a group, possibly schools or charity groups from the inner city neighborhoods that the Hawks give tickets away to, to fill the arena.

Celtics tickets are expensive. Especially the ones down in the lower sections where the cameras shoot the crowd. Most of the Lower Section seats are people who’ve been Season Ticket holders for 30+ years or more. Back then, and even still today, Boston is a predominantly white city. Not because of racism. It just is. there are just a lot more white people in the population.

  14. Well I guess it must hurt you deep down that that emotional, overhyped, dirty player is going to finish his career with more championships than the Hawks will EVER win.

  15. “Boston’s percentage of minorities: 50.2%
    Atlanta’s percentage of minorities: 38%

These are based on 2007 census estimates.”

NewsFlashMike you just got owned… come back when your team does something.

  16. A few other notables from the Atlanta series (to me anyway):

–The Mike Bibby Faces on a Stick.

–Mike Bibby with the leg warmers and head band making him look like sort of a red and navy blue elf (i noticed he ditched the headband, it’s a good start for his recovery).

–Marvin Williams ridiculous flagrant foul on Rajon Rondo during the middle of that game 7 drawers-soiling performance by the Hawks.

  17. Typo??????

  18. “Typo??????”

He accidentally typed “44” instead of “34” for the margin of victory in Game 7. We all know what he meant, but some lame Hawks fan will want to make a big deal about it I’m sure.

  19. “Celtics tickets are expensive. Especially the ones down in the lower sections where the cameras shoot the crowd.”

wow if thats not a racist and stereotypical statement then i dont know what is.. Are you implying that minorities cannot afford lower level tickets?

  20. Newsflash, drop the race BS, it is getting you nowhere. Is your name really Mike or is it Jemele?

  21. Mike, I assume you read the next line taht said

“Most lower section seats at the Garden are Season Ticket holders who have had their seats for 30+ years”.

But it’s cute that you ignored it.

Celtics Tickets are expensive. Most of the ones that aren’t 30 year+ season ticket holders are corporately owned seats, given to clients and coworkers of the companies that own them.

Don’t burn too many crosses, or make too many Obama Effigy’s on the way home to watch the game tonight, tough guy.

  22. I am going to dominate ZaZa tonight

  23. everyone watch that…nice refresher

  24. Hey Scott and G4L

    “Boston’s percentage of minorities: 50.2%
    Atlanta’s percentage of minorities: 38%

These are based on 2007 census estimates.”

NewsFlashMike you just got owned… come back when your team does something.”

hmmmm. not sure where you get your news from .. but

“As of July 2006, the Atlanta metropolitan area had an estimated population of 5,138,223.[89] The racial makeup of the city was 55.7% black, 37.2% white, 2.3% Asian, 0.2% American Indian, 3.7% from other races, and .9% from two or more races. 5.9% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race”

i know youre figures are from an estimated 2007 census.. but i dont think atlanta lost that many black people within a year. Whoever has been to Atlanta knows for a fact that black outnumber whites. Nice try though bozo. Oh and Danno I voted for Obama.. the majority of the city is liberal, the rest of the state is red.

  25. I will admit i started a topic that was ill-advised for a basketball discussion (i was just giving an observation of your arena’s racial makeup vs other arena’s racial makeup) We can now go back to discussing the game tonight. Oh and if my team loses I will be back here after the game to take my beating (hey, im from the old school I will take it, I have talked a lot of shit). I expect a good defensive battle from the hawks and the old guys.

  26. Why does this even matter? In the words of Johnnythebone, “underneath the skin and jewelry, we’re all the same,” so who cares whether the fans are black, white, or transparent.

But I’m pretty sure Mike’s numbers are much more accurate than Scott’s.

  27. Good point NewsFlashMike how dare white people go to celtics games shame on those racists

  28. First the Raptor Truthers and now this idiot…it’s great to be the champs!

  29. Screw the Hawks! Go Celts!

  30. this is pathetic right now… we need someone to step in and take control offensively and im thinkin it might be ray tonight… wow i fucking hate the hawks

  31. Could care less about the Hawks at the end of the day C’s have a ring and Hawks lost in the 1st round. And no matter how well Hawks are doing early? Will they be able to keep it up? Blazers went on a long winning streak last year and what did it get them? No playoffs.

  32. Paul Pierce is a mother fuckin killer. Cold Blooded.

  33. i said i would be here if my team lost.. and we did… good game to watch but sucked being on the other end. hawks hung in there even without their second best player (josh smith) and also extreme foul trouble by the front line (randolph morris was playing minutes- bad sign for hawks). cant wait to play you guys again with josh smith in the lineup. the starters were excellent tonight for the celtics but i was not impressed at all by celtics bench. cant wait for the rematch next month with our full squad

  34. Did you read the recap of the game to know what happened since you were probably too busy figuring out the racial heritage of everyone in the crowd instead of paying attention to things that matter?
