Gotta admit, I was tired of the Cavs taking some of our spotlight with their petty 11-game winning streak. That ended last night, thanks to the Atlanta Hawks.

The Celtics put their 14-game streak on the line Monday night at home against the Jazz. Utah maybe 15-10 but they have an unimpressive 5-6 road record.

Quick question, is there room on the roster for Dikembe Mutombo? Here’s the latest from Marc Spears:

The Celtics have the maximum 15 players and would have to waive one to make room for Mutombo. While Boston’s starting center spot is solidified with Kendrick Perkins, his backups include seldom-used Patrick O’Bryant and undersized Leon Powe and Glen Davis. The Celtics have not replaced the veteran experience and length that free agent P.J. Brown brought late last season and have interest in Mutombo, but have not offered him a contract.

“The way Boston is playing right now with [Kevin Garnett], Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen, the team is heading in a direction toward winning another championship,” Mutombo said. “It will be interesting if I made the decision to go there. It would be very good. I’ve been to the Finals twice [with Philadelphia and New Jersey]. I got close, but I walked away empty-handed. Maybe going to Boston would give me a chance to win.

I don’t see it happening.

Sorry for the short post – just found out I got power back at the house. Ice storms suck.

  1. The only reason the Celtics are close to the Cavaliers this season is because of Rajon Rondo, who is clearly emerging as the second best player on the team outside of KG. The Big Three players are all getting old, and I still wouldn’t be shocked if the youth and depth of the Cavaliers works to their advantage in another seven-game playoff series this coming April/May.

  2. I was thinking Danny might go after Zo for the playoff run? Dikembe would work too, a solid big man veteran for a repeat of last year, ill take it.

  3. Jacob Rosen, are you serious? 1st of all, celts are 1-0 vs the cavs this season so that already gives us the edge. 2nd of all, Ray Allen is 10x better this season than last season and if you don’t think so, you’re not watching the games. Lastly, Pierce has taken over games on more than one occasion when needed. Quit being ignorant, the celts are UNDOUBTEDLY the best team in the league. Cavs are either 2nd or 3rd.

  4. Room for another taunting big man? Is the floor big enough for the finger wag and the cobra on the same night?

  5. always room for one more, as long as he takes scal’s spot

  6. That one Boston win versus Cleveland came on opening night in Boston, before the Cavaliers truly entered the argument of the best teams in the league. I don’t think it is a given at all that the Celtics are the best team in the league, and I think any given playoff game between the Cavaliers and Celtics would be a toss up. These two teams are both dominant this year.

If you don’t admit that Rajon Rondo has developed into one of the best point guards in the NBA, then you are an idiot. Us Cleveland fans know a great point guard when we see one, and Rajon Rondo this year is one of the top eight point guards without a doubt. Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, on the other hand, have not been as dominant all-around as they used to be, and are not even close to the best players at their position. As a team, the Celtics are truly great I will give you that, but I think that Rondo is emerging as the second best player on that team without a doubt.

  7. The streak will be over on Wednesday in Atlanta..

  8. Oh lookey here… guess who’s back.

  9. back.. i hope you guys beat the Jazz tonight so we can end your streak like we did Cleveland’s (Cavs are overrated, by the way)… The OldGuys are playing very well as evidenced by your streak.. i havent checked to see how many of those teams beaten in the streak are above .500 but i will check it out.. I look forward to attending the game on Wed night (Ludacris performing at halftime- gotta love playing the C’s- Luda, national tv, etc). I will be very close to action and yelling very personal obscenities at Garnett all game long
