Why Mutombo Makes Sense

Asked if he had talked with Mutombo, Rivers replied, “Always. He’s a good friend. He’s going to come back. I talked to him last week – he will come back.

“We’re over the [salary] cap so it’s tough for us to do a lot of stuff, but we’re looking at everybody.”

I’m still trying to digest the Mutombo to Boston speculation. I know he’s old, really old. But he could help against teams with big frontcourts, like the Lakers and Cavaliers. And he prevents the obvious mismatch of having Big Baby guard Big Z or Bynum. Please – do not mention Patrick O’Bryant as an option.

Last year for Houston, Mutombo averaged 15 mpg, 3 ppg, 5 reb and 1 block.

  1. me and my buddies have had a huge running joke about mutumbo for years, it never gets old

seeing him in green might be a dream come true

i say pay him the money just for the finger wags

  2. Is that photo from Mutumbo’s Rookie year?

    Brandon Hansen
    Just South of North

  3. i would also love to see mutumbo play for the Cs….but then again….i feel like perk would adopt the finger wag when he blocks shots and then just increase the number of Tech’s he gets even more

  4. Another big is key…if not PJ then Mutumbo is just fine

…in other news…’toine was just waived by the Grizzlies…i think you know where im going with this…so would he? could he? find a spot somewhere in that second unit? usually the second unit needs to keep either Pierce or Ray out there for certain stretches because the offense goes into a funk. Couldn’t those minutes concievably go to Antoine? House, TA, ‘toine, “Lean” baby, and Leon as a second unit?

Just a thought…because we all know he’s never seen a shot he didn’t like..much like sam cassell ..but taller… and maybe a silent agreement by the C’s that if he dropped 15-20 lbs by february they’d pick him up …which would be must if he’s going to fit into the defense this team demands
