Big Brook

For those who haven’t noticed, Nets rookie center Brook Lopez (his brother Robin is the one with the crazy hair) has been tearing it up lately. He dropped 31 pts and 13 rebounds on OKC Monday night and is averaging 13 pts, 9 reb and 2 blks for the month.

With Kendrick Perkins out, might KG get the call to guard the youngster? New Jersey will likely start another rookie – Ryan Anderson – at the PF for the injured Yi.

And for those looking forward to watching Vince Carter:

Carter hurt his hip in Monday’s win over the Thunder…(He) didn’t practice yesterday, instead he watched film and participated in the walk-through. Nets coach Lawrence Frank calls him a “game-time decision.”

After the jump, NBA dancers in action…

  1. Hopefully Powe can push brook out the paint – I am more concerned about defending Harris. It will be nice to get three straight wins but it won’t come easy. Hey, did you guys hear about this rumor from http://www.hoopsworld.com they always report crazy rumors. JJ Ridick for Walker and Pruitt. Why would Orlando even consider trading with their competitor? Makes no sense.
Otis Smith Denies Trade Talks With Celtics

Magic GM Otis Smith said the reports coming out of Boston that the Celtics asked about acquiring SG J.J. Redick are not true.

“Nope,” Smith said. “I haven’t talked to Danny [Ainge, the Celtics’ General Manager/President of Basketball Operations], so I don’t know how that can be out there. I can’t remember the last time I’ve talked to him.”

Reports have said the Celtics offered the Magic F Bill Walker and G Gabe Pruitt for Redick, but that Orlando turned down the deal.

Orlando has pulled off a deal before the NBA trading deadline in six of the past seven seasons (no trade in 2006-07.)

Smith said it wouldn’t surprise him if interest picks up for Redick. But he reiterated that he doesn’t expect the Magic to make a deal before this season’s Feb. 19 deadline.

  2. I think Powe, Baby and Scal will give Lopez a nice “welcome to the jungle” tonight-and I’m sure KG will roll out his personal welcome mat as well.heh-heh..For those sneakerheads out there in Celtic’s Nation, very cool 1st promo/teaser from Nike for the Air Jordan 2009 here:

  3. I don’t see why the Celtics would even consider doing that deal. I don’t want JJ…not even a little bit.

  4. I agree Scott. Reddick is a proven NCAA scorer, but NOT a proven NBA scorer (yet)

  5. CBSsports has an article out there with the people most likely to be traded by the deadline. Mike Miller to the Celtics?

  6. Looks like VC is out for the game…?

  7. I would not trade Gabe straight up for Reddick. Why would we want that guy?

  8. Agreed, Alex. If we added Reddick we would just be getting even more undersized. That’s exactly what we DON’T need.
