In an argument that sounds amazingly like the one we’ve been making for months, Steve Bulpett says in today’s Herald that Rondo’s importance to this team makes him even-money to make the All Star team.

According to the numbers, you could make an even stronger case for Rondo as the Celts’ MCP – most critical player. The breakdowns speak to just how important he is to this operation, as well as how much room he has to improve. That last fact should be enough to create sleepless nights for opposing coaches the next several years.

While it’s true that Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen bring varying measures of greatness to the table each game and that the bench has taken on a “Community Auditions” Star of the Day quality, Rondo has become the barometer. Tell us how well he played and we can pretty much tell you whether the Celtics were victorious.

Where have I heard that before?

Low-flying birds indicate an impending storm.

A glut of falling acorns indicate a tough winter ahead.

And a good game out of Rajon Rondo indicates a Boston Celtics win.

Yes, on a team with Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, it’s Rajon Rondo that is the best indicator of how the Celtics are playing.

Oh, there.

Rajon Rondo deserves to be in the All Star game.  For him, it means something.  I hope he gets there.

The Celtics have another matinee game today… so we’re going to do another live chat.  Check back here at 1pm for that.
