Injuries to some of the best players on the league’s best teams are occurring with alarming frequency. Last night, Chris Paul limped off the court with a strained groin while the Magic’s Jameer Nelson dislocated his right shoulder. MRIs scheduled for later today will reveal the scope of the damage (Might Rondo get the All-Star call to replace Jameer?). And the Lakers have lost Andrew Bynum for up to 12 weeks with a torn MCL.

Fortunately for us, the Celtics are only dealing with the flu. KG is definitely out for tonight’s game against Philly.

“We didn’t have to tell him,” Rivers said. “He’s sick still. He’s not well enough to play. We’re hoping on Wednesday when we come back we can have a practice and get him up and down the floor, and he can play Thursday and Friday. But if he’s not feeling great by (tomorrow), then he won’t play in those games either.”

TA is also sick. While he didn’t practice yesterday, he did fly to Philly with the team. Scal (post concussion issues) is also out.

For the record, I’ve not had my flu shot this winter. That thing hurts. Watching my 4-year-old son get his was enough pain for me.

  1. Might Rondo get the All-Star call to replace Jameer?

    Thy name is Mo.

  2. When i saw contestant chosen to Skills Challenge, i thought Rondo would have a chance in this. His only weakness is his shot, but his way better than others at rest. So he could replace Nelson in Allstar game and in Skills Chalenge

  3. “…if he’s not feeling great (by tomorrow) then [KG] won’t play in [Thursday and Friday’s] games either.”

there is no chance in hell that KG misses the game on Thursday. he would play with one leg and still be effective

  4. Ray Allen should take his spot period!

  5. The flu shot has nothing on the pain caused by the anthrax shot, that thing is painful, and it is a series of seven with a yearly booster!

  6. Jameer Nelson is a mediocre player who never belonged in the ASG to begin with

  7. I think it’s gonna be Mo Williams too. As much as I want Rondo in… I still don’t think it’ll be a Celtic.

  8. Josh, the third one in the series, is the one that makes your arm feel like there is lava in your vains, thanks for reminding of that fun pain. I saw grown men cry after that one. yea the ful has nothing on Anthrax

  9. Yeah it will be Mo Williams. As much as I want it to be Ray Allen or Rondo. The Cavs only have 1 Allstar compared to the Celtics & Magic 2 & each teams record is pretty similar.

  10. Jesterroo – the first time I got one, after I got stuck (in the back of the arm) I was walking away from the medic putting on my BDU top, then the pain hit me. I couldn’t bend my arm, and the next morning I couldn’t even do pain free push ups.

  11. Rejoicing in other teams’ injuries. Nice. I guess if you can’t beat the whole team, might as well try your luck against the banged-up remnants.

You guys love to say “injuries are no excuse.” But you’d sing a different tune if KG went down, and you know it. Your team is made up of players. If key players are absent, your team’s strength is reduced – period. Injuries are a very good excuse.

But here’s the thing. Without Bynum, LA’s still a strong contender. We’re just not gonna have the cakewalk we would have had with Bynum in the line-up. Without Garnett, this whole blog would disappear because Boston would be mediocre at best.

  12. Um Kurt rambis – dont compare losing bynum to us losing KG you demented, delusional fuck… We would still be contenders if Perkins went down too….

  13. Lakers fans are delusional if they think Bynum is on the same level as KG. Bynum has done a total of nothing in the league yet.

  14. Bynum has already missed more games then KG has his whole career.

  15. I do not “rejoice” in Bynum’s misfortune. But the big jerk deserved what he got for punching a hole in Wallace’s lung. That was seriously stupid, as was his standing around watching Kobe fall into his leg. The guy’s a menace, apparently just as much to himself as to everyone around him.

The Celtics do not need, want or make excuses. And anyway, LA is not important enough to think about. It’s just another game, and probably the last time we’ll play the Lakers this year… you’ll be watching us play the Spurs in the Finals. (Though I would prefer LA… Spurs are a REAL team. They would never be blown out by 39.)

  16. Interesting how the Hornets totally fell apart after Paul left in the 3rd quarter. Goes to a point made here a few days ago… That almost all contenders in the league would FALL APART if they lost one key player: Lakers: Kobe, Cavs: Lebron, Magic: Howard (or maybe even Jameer, we’ll see soon), Hornets: Paul, Heat: Wade, and on and on. It’s typical in the NBA… some writers have even said that you have to have one superstar player in order to win, etc., etc.

Celtics are a different kind of team. They do not depend on any one guy. Different night, different guys step up. Plus the team defense they play — unique in the league — does not require any superstar… just requires smarts and work and character.

LA may have the smarts, but they’re weak on the work part, and haven’t got the character of a champion at all. Detroit used to be a real team, but they’re screwed now. Jazz are a real team (not dependent on one guy), but they’re not good enough. The only other club in the NBA that is a real TEAM and also a contender is the San Antonio Spurs.

  17. correct me if im wrong but we lost KG for 2 or 3 weeks last year? 11 games? and i know we were 7-2 at one point without him and not sure what the final tally was… get your shit together haters before you come on a boston site

  18. why is it when injuries are being discussed, clueless faker fans see it as us rejoicing?

  19. Lakers fans think Bynum is some sort of God or something. It is hilarious.

  20. Hey “Kurt” we will listen to your excuses when you admit that the Celtics were the best team in the 1980’s since the only reason we lost to the Laker’s was because of injuries. Walton was out and , Bird, and McAil were playing with tough injuries. So Kurt, admit that the Laker’s 80’s wins were “tainted” just like the Laker’s say the Championship was tainted because of the injury to Bynum.

If one side has an excuse so does the other side. We could even say that we would have swept the Laker’s if perk was %100, etc.

  21. And for you Laker trolls, instead of coming here and insulting, why don’t you try and come up with reasonable counter arguments to the points we are making here. Or don’t you have any other than insults?

Show us where you think we are wrong. Otherwise don’t post

  22. wow, what’s going on in here folks? you guys are fretting again? well boston, it seems like two championships in a row looks a lot more likely now. without bynum, the lakers are very unlikely to prevail in the finals, if they even make it. that’s too bad lakers fans, because great players like alonzo mourning and patrick ewing were saying that
bynum was so close to exploding and just snatching the championship away from the celtics. they were saying that bynum was for real. he was actually exploding as of late, so i guess zo and ewing were right. the way bynum was playing as of late, it’s very unlikely that the celtics would have prevailed in the finals.

it’s interesting to see how you guys invalidate championship runs by teams other than the celtics. lakers of the 80s were a fluke because of celtics injuries to mchale and bird. the 90s bulls are a fluke because the league was watered down, or however you guys coin it. the lakers of this decade are a fluke because they hijacked shaq. the spurs of this decade are a fluke because they snatched duncan. instead of just admitting that the celtics organization has lost their winning ways, you devise a myriad of excuses to invalidate other teams successes, and at the same time, downplay your teams lack of success in the past 22 years. lakers fans make many excuses, but you guys aren’t too far behind either.

it’s also hilarious how you guys talk about REAL teams and such. but if we look at the bigger picture, are the celtics a REAL organization still? i am not talking team, i am talking organization here. can an organization that went on a 22 year championship drought be considered a real organization still? especially an organization like the celtics? i can see a knicks, sixers or pistons team go that long without a championship, but the celtics? yea yea yea, i know you are going to say you have your 17 championships. that’s all nice and dandy, but they’ve only had one since 1986. in recent times, there have been organizations that are more REAL than the celtics, like the spurs, lakers and bulls. so i think it’s a valid question just as you find it valid to question if other teams are REAL teams.

  23. Hey MJ’s Ambassador, you are showing how much of a dumb ass you really are if you think the guy was being serious about saying the Lakers’ titles weren’t valid. All that BS you are rambling on about is pretty lame, and if it has been said it has been in jest.

I think you missed your Haldol (or are you on Zyprexa?) dose today. My wife runs support groups for people with schizophrenia, would you like her number?

  24. I think it is fair to say though if Laker’s feel the title was ‘tainted’ for the Celtics last year then it was ‘tainted’ for the Lakers when they won over the Celics when the Celtics had injuries. If Laker’s fans disagree then all I can say is it is a bit hypocritical don’t you think?
