Should We Be Concerned About This?

I’ve already linked to the Herald piece about Danny’s attempt at making a deal… but I glossed over this quote from Paul Pierce:

“I think it would help us. You don’t want to burn out me and Ray (Allen) coming down the stretch to where we’re having to play heavy minutes, especially going into the playoffs.”

Part of me feels like this is nothing.  But then I realize that I’ve never heard him, or many other players for that matter, offer up the possibility of getting burned out without some prodding.

So… should I be concerned that Paul is suddenly talking about that possibility?

  1. I would be more concerned if they weren’t the reigning champs, and having played the longest season in Celtics history last year.

    He’s just being realistic.

  2. I think we have all seen it during their slumps. The starters are not young guys anymore and do need their minutes reduced. At least someone finally admitted it.

I would not even mind seeing each one the big three take a game off from time to time. Until Doc has more confidence in some players it will not happen though

  3. Well (sigh) they are getting older every year. And as we know, the age effect is not like falling off a cliff… it’s a gradual descent from an apex. It’s virtually certain that each of the Big 3 has already begun that descent… I think they’re all in the very early part of it, but still, they’re there. I think Paul and KG may be experiencing it more than Ray, who seems like a perpetual motion machine… Ray is so fluid and economical with his motion, he seems ageless.

Overall, I agree with what seems to be the general opinion that the window that opened in 2007 has a life expectancy of about 3 or 4 years, in each of which the Big 3 will be slightly less durable than the year before.

  4. The Truth is telling white lies. He’s playing coy…

  5. That being said… John, what trade do you see as an option?

  6. I don’t see any trades as an option, really. I just don’t think we have anything to offer up that will get us what we need.

The only option I see is the Celtics picking up someone that is waived in the next week or so. Teams that couldn’t deal today will start cutting costs and buying guys out. Then the Celtics will have some options. They might have to cut a player if they want to add a big AND a PG… but so be it. Patrick O’Bryant isn’t playing at all anyway….so he can go.

  7. I know hes a rookie, but giving Walker some tick could really alleviate the problem of too many minutes if they cant make a deal. I mean, how bad could it be if he is out there with 4 vets? I say give it a shot.

  8. “Well they are getting older every year”
    wow DRJ, you’re so smart.

Pierce is speaking the truth ;-), he would love some help off the bench, its really too bad the deal for Raja Bell never come to fruition, because the bench is weak and we can be homers all we want put Gabe Pruitt, Brian Scalabrine, 2 d league material rookies is straight crap.
