Doc Doesn’t Know What Rest Means

Last Monday, Doc had this to say about keeping the Big 3 fresh:

“Even if I play a Billy (Walker) and a Gabe (Pruitt) and we’re struggling with them in, I’ve got to sit and take it because I can’t burn Paul and Ray out. That’s going to be a tough one.”

Apparently Doc can’t “sit and take it.” Paul Pierce played nearly the entire game (47 minutes, 42 seconds) against the Pistons. Bill Walker and J.R. Giddens played 38 seconds – combined.

This reckless coaching behavior will come back to bite us in the ass in the playoffs. I guarantee it.

  1. I don’t care what anyone says about rest we need to win every game possible. Homecourt advantage is huge this year with the way the Cavs have been playing. Mark my word we don’t get hamoe court we don’t win playoffs Period!

  2. Doc reminds me of KC Jones… when he often overused Bird, Parish and DJ…

  3. It reaaly gets frustrating. Pierce would have not of said anything earlier if he was not breaking down. I remember the 80’s when Bird and McHale started to break down from too much wear and tear. The regular season is important, but not as much as being healthy in the post season. And you are right, it is just ten minutes. I doubt walker is going to make any more mistakes than TA would have in the same situation.

  4. exactly thatguy. They are not young anymore

  5. Doc always says one thing and does another when it comes to rotations, and not in any way that throws of our opposition. It’s because he doesn’t have a clue. And not one reporter in this town will call him on his BS.

Add Mikki and Starbury, wait until KG and Scal get healthy and wait for the rotation merry-go-round Chinese fire drill to reach warp velocity speed just in time for the playoffs to begin – just like he did last year.

  6. Not just in the playoffs too… it’s counterproductive already. In a few games lately, Paul’s been gassed by the end and it showed.

  7. Man do I hate Wallace and his hipchecks, the guy’s a buster. Pistons one and done. One good thing today hey Kobe meet the new Shaq!

  8. Yeah, Doc definitely needs to find a way to get PP some rest.

Here’s a link to the story behind the Rondo-Maxwell “argument” Apparently, they really were just joking around, about a card game.

  9. It’s a tough call. I think the frustrating way we lost today’s game and a few others, Spurs, Lakers, just gets people looking to blame someone or something. I can definitely see where these guys are getting tired, but what’s Doc to do..?He had what, 5 bench players? And sure, we want to rest them but we also need to keep winning to get home court. We all remember what the f happened on the road in the 1st 2 rounds last year don’t we..? So I guess I’ll play Doc’s defender today. All in all, when KG and Scal get back, things will be a bit better. The other thing that still concerns me is the damn turnovers…ARGH.

  10. Damn..Joe Smith was bought out by OKC. Cavs may have him by Wednesday.

  11. I think you have a point, but at the same time, KG is out. I see Doc’s reasoning for wanting at least one big gun on the floor at all times, but he also needs to make sure he puts forth a true effort to rest them. He needs let some other guys burn minutes while the top dogs preserve some of their energy for when they really need it. We don’t need it against the Pacers on February 29 or the Pistons on March 1. We need it in April, May, and hopefully June.

I hope Doc manages the minutes wisely from here on out.

  12. Is that true? Joe Smith Fucking Sellout! Its on now!!

  13. Wouldn’t mind losing if it meant Pierce got some rest…

  14. While I agree with the shallow bench comment, Doc has always driven me F-in nuts by riding his horses into the ground. He should watch papovich manage minutes for older players and take note.
