Report: Ainge Suffers Heart Attack

Update from the Globe:

Celtics managing partner Stephen Pagliuca told the Globe that Ainge got to the hospital quickly — something that is critical when a heart attack is in progress — and is “recovering nicely.”

“I saw him at about 3:30 p.m. today,” Pagliuca said. “I spoke to him and he was already joking about recovering and Eddie House breaking his record [for 3-point percentage in a season] putting him over the top. He was in good spirits. He was with his wife, Michelle, at the hospital. He was in good spirits.”

Via WCVB-TV in Boston:

Ainge was resting comfortably after being taken to the hospital early Thursday morning, SportsCenter 5 reported.

Ainge, 50, who took over reins of the Celtics in in 2003 and orchestrated last year’s Celtics championship by bringing in Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, did not attend Wednesday night’s Celtics game because he was feeling sick.

Ainge woke up Thursday morning with chest pains and was taken to the hospital. Doctors later inserted a stent to unclog an artery that was 100 percent clogged.

Ainge will be in the hospital for a few days and will probably miss the Celtics’ playoff opener against the Bulls on Saturday.

He is expected to make a full recovery.

Get well Danny.

Geez, can anything else go wrong today? Wait, I take that back.

  11. We are in the Book of Job. The script calls for God to step in at the end and bring health and joy to Job and his family.

  14. :( Thinking nothing but good thoughts for Danny, KG and the rest of our Boys.

  15. All right, I know this will sound hokey. But I don’t care. Just want to say something about our beloved Celtics….

It’s not just about basketball. It’s about life. And Danny, and Red, and all of us. It’s about the fact that the Big 3 are all over 30… too old, many say, to win more championships.

Well, we are all too old. Someday. Is it over for us when we pass 30? 40? 50? Oh yeah? Well, I got news for all who believe that… if you’re lucky, you’re going to be that age real soon. Turn around, and you’re there. Life passes like smoke blowing in the wind. Wasn’t it just yesterday that Danny Ainge was a skinny redhead shooting lights out in green?

Right now, the Cs are standing in the breach, fighting the good fight for all of us. Paul Pierce doesn’t feel too old. Ray certainly doesn’t. And I know KG doesn’t, though his body is failing him at the moment. Take heart, KG… there will be other moments. Your heart is too strong to let your body fall apart. You too Danny. Hold back the dark.

Just look what Susan Boyle did, at age 47, with nothing but courage and the talent she always knew she had. ( )

We want them to win, and win they will with heart and passion and hopefully just a little bit of luck. The arena may change… but it’s never too late.

  16. God bless D.A.-get well soon pal. Psyched for Saturday, will be there giving every last bit I have for the boys in Green.

  17. Lets hope its not the bulls in green this time, huh kobewearsapurplethong? ;-)

    Great post DRJ, as always.

    Get better DA

    Go Cs’

  18. Exactly Baron..

  19. Proud of you DRJ

Since Danny Ainge is feeling better now… I bet Eddie House will have a nice joke for DA during his hospital visit.

    Eddie: Boss, how you feeling.
DA: Never better, you will never get rid of me.
Eddie: Sorry to break your 3 pt % record, maybe that caused your attack.. lol
DA: Yea, very funny. I will keep that joke in mind when your contact is up
    Eddie: Just joking man

  20. I hope Danny gets well. That’s gotta be a scary thing. I hope LA starting a 3-peat in June doesn’t have an adverse effect on his ticker. KIDDING! But seriously, I DO hope he gets well soon and I’ll sincerely pray for him.

Sorry to get off topic, but isn’t it hilarious how the Yanks got shelled at their new overpriced craphole?

  21. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Danny.

DR J. Wow. That was a thoughtful post.
