Surgery On Hold

The KG saga continues… but at least it’s continuing in a direction that gives me hope that he’ll return at some point.  KG has put off knee surgery.

“He’s not going to do it right now,” Rivers said of the procedure. “He was looking and searching for it and then he just decided to wait.”

Hey Doc… what happened to “Kevin Garnett ain’t playing in these playoffs”?

“All I’m saying is that we’re still looking at this the same way we did last week,” he said. “But if he can come back, then we’d obviously take that. I still don’t think he can, but why would you ever want to take away that possibility?”

So the door is still open.  I’m not going to analyze this anymore.  What the hell is there to say?

By the way, one note on Leon Powe and his torn ACL… he’s got to be the toughest bastard alive:

“He played three minutes with a torn ACL on the floor. He didn’t come out. He kept playing. It just says so much about Leon Powe the person”

Go ahead and look up video of what happens to people who tear an ACL.  They all hit the deck writhing in pain.  Leon just winced.  Probably something he picked up in his prior career as The Black Night.

  1. John – have many times have you said this over the past 2-3 weeks:

“I’m not going to analyze this anymore. What the hell is there to say?”

You want to stop talking about KG’s injury…but you can’t. Don’t fight it.

  2. He didn’t analyzed this, he just put facts in here. No theories, no speculation, just quotations. But i agree, don’t fight it, everybody want to hear news about KG

  3. does it really make any sense NOT to have the surgery now? we need him completly ready to go next season, the sooner the surgery the better. He isnt coming back. and if he does it would be completly out of basketball shape on a glass knee. risking further injury.

yes powe is tough, but playing on a torn ACL isnt smart or something to cheer

  4. Man, I would love to see KG doing a willis reed! like willis playing and destroying the fakers in the 1970 nba finals.

hold on just yet its not the fakers and lebron sorry ass in the finals…

    the champs are still here!

  5. This not directed at you Red’s, but when I hear anything about this, I might as well just hear “Blah blah, blah blah..blah. Blah blah blah! Blah blah, blah blah? Blah!”

  6. Ok Chuck…. I’ll just not tell our readers that KG is putting off surgery. I mean.. it’s not like they come here for Celtics news or anything.

  7. Can we put Baron in a timeout corner?

    dude is so angry.

  8. Yeah Baron.. he diagnosed the torn ACL when it happened, and decided to put his future at risk.

He said.. “damn my knee hurts”… but his high tolerance for pain allowed him to keep going until he realized its worse than he thought.

Keep in mind: He didn’t know he tore his ACL until AFTER the game.

  9. WOW Leon is tough, little know facts about Leon Powe

Leon Powe doesn’t wear a watch, HE decides what time it is.

When Leon Powe does a pushup, he isn’t lifting himself up, he’s pushing the Earth down.

Leon Powe is so fast, he can run around the world and punch himself in the back of the head.

Leon Powe’s hand is the only hand that can beat a Royal Flush.

Leon Powe can lead a horse to water AND make it drink.

  10. Obviously it’s a small tear, or he could not have walked on it.

Maybe humans weren’t meant to run around playing ball. Maybe we’re designed to sit around on sofas munching popcorn. Occasionally getting up to curse at the screen. It’s good for the knees.

  11. About Rajon Rondo’s ankle:
“The swelling has gone down some, that’s always a good sign,” coach Doc Rivers said.

Thank God, I didn’t realize this, but Rondo leads the team in points, assists, rebounds and steals thusfar this series.
    Derrick Who?

  12. Btw, the 2nd half of that Globe article “Day old blues for Leon” (link above) does a good job summing up our current situation.

  13. Im not angry Danno.

Okay maybe I am. Im angry at people who think even if Kevin Garnett came back that he would be even half the player we’re use to seeing and we’d repeat. Ive seen the guy miss 3 weeks and struggle mightily to get into rhythm and game shape. His whole game is based off athletisicm, if he isnt in game shape and the knee isnt 100%, he wouldnt be that big of help. Therefore, im looking to next season, where I desperately want him to be healthy, so its my opinion, just get the surgery ASAP. forget these will he/ wont he come back drama and ongoing soap opera.

And yes I do applaud Leon for having the heart of a lion…but it was absolutely stupid to keep him out there, yet again a fail job by the celtics trainers.

  14. Potentially having KG for any time during the playoffs is worth costing him even a month of the beginning of next season.

  15. I agree Baron – Cut the crap, get the knee fixed and stop teasing himself and all the fans.

Powe is a one tough SOB.

  16. Um, no it is absolutely not Sal…its risking further injury…and I really dont get what you guys dont understand…HIS KNEE ISNT HEALED, not only that, but its been months since hes played competitive basketball, he might be able to come in and play the Mikki Moore role, and no that isnt worth costing a month of next season.

Teams would take it right at kevin, hed be a revolving door spending this much time away from the game and on a hobbled knee…is that really that hard to understand? our chances arent a whole lot better with a hobbled out of shape KG then they are without him at all…Get the surgery…come back next season 100%, in the meantime lets go to war with what we’ve got…this madness must stop

  17. Oh, and I cant believe anyone would want to risk KGs career…look people, there are more important things then winning a championship this season. (KGs health, career, and production for the rest of his contract)

Look what happened to leon, he rushed back from his knee injury and now his career is in jeopardy. the way things have gone I dont want KG playing in an NBA playoff game. no. no. no. It would take 3 series for the guy to even get a rhythm…and theres no guarantee we get out of the first round

Please celtics, get Kevin his much needed surgery…PLEASE

  18. If Kevin Garnett isnt 100%, which be all accounts he is not…you’d have to be a complete moron to play him after saying pretty confidently hes done for the season. seems like something shady is going on. if he needs the surgery, why the hell put it off? in hopes he can comeback and barely be anymore effective then mikki moore? nope, not worth it.

  19. He’s finished for the playoffs. If you were told you need surgery on your knee no coach would put a player on the floor to risk further injury and no player would agree to going out.

It’s only on hold because he wants a second or maybe third opinion.

  20. Remember, it’s a strained knee thats the problem, the surgery is just to remove a bone spur(which dont cause any pain while playing, but could damage surrounding tendons or muscle tissue over time)

So yeah I dont think they’re gonna risk tearing it just to have him play at 50% for a few games.

  21. Baron you are completely missing the point and are really annoying me. The CHANCE and only a SLIM chance at that KG does come back for this playoffs would be if he is healthy. He’s not going to come back hobbling on a bad knee, the celtics are not stupid and neither is KG. He is putting off surgery in the hopes that he can rehab his knee back into playing form (maybe a couple more weeks of rest) and he can come and actually contribute to another title run. What the hell is wrong with that? You would rather have KG in November next year or possibly if he gets himself healthy have him start maybe a month later next season and have another championship? Your an idiot if you don’t want that. You never know what could happen so let him try and get back healthy. I don’t see whats wrong with that
